9th Conference on Cuban and Cuban-American Studies May 24-26, 2013 Miami, Florida

The Cuban Research Institute of Florida International University continues its tradition

of convening scholars engaged in the study of Cuba and Cuban-Americans by announcing its 9th Conference. The main theme of the conference, Dispersed Peoples: The Cuban and Other Diasporas, invites comparisons between the Cuban experience and that of many other groups that live outside their homelands—from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean, from Mexico to the Southern Cone of South America, from Israel to China. We are especially interested in examining the political, economic, social, and cultural dimensions of diverse diasporas, as well as their history, legacy, future role, and relations with their countries of origin. Comparative approaches are strongly encouraged, particularly between Cubans and other Latinos in the United States (such as Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, and Brazilians).
