SUMMARY
Responsible for the production and reporting of news related to the Bronx. Maintains contacts and assists in the coverage of stories affecting the borough. Interacts with anchors, reporters, news assistants and technical staff. Writes, edits and presents stories in a clear and concise fashion.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Story Production
– Enterprises, shoots, writes, and edits packages.
– Presents organized, understandable, topical and attention-grabbing stories.
– Reviews content of stories and checks for editorial mistakes, technical errors, and any and all elements needed to deliver quality packages and vosots.
– Communicates information to writers and news desk.
– Writes vosots and package leads for anchors.
– Develops sources and contacts for story development.

Camera and Field Operations
– Drives to scene of news events (must have valid driver’s license)
– Shoots all video for use in news packages
– Edits video for broadcast

Presentation Skills
– Gives live or on scene reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.
– Occasionally represents station at other events.
– Fills in as Anchor if assigned.

Supervision (non-management)
– Monitors the work of news assistants.
– Provides feedback and information on stories related to the Bronx beat.

Other duties as assigned.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
– Must live in the Bronx

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
– Bachelors Degree or relevant beat experience.
– Minimum of 2 years experience in news. On-air experience preferred.

– Makes decisive and accurate judgments for story and personal safety.
– Writes vosots for anchors.
Camera and Field Operations
– Shoots video to illustrate stories.
– Edits packages and vosots.
– Drives to news locations.
– Checks and maintains equipment.
– Ability to lift and carry at least 50lbs.

Presentation Skills
– Appears on television.
– Occasionally represents station at other events.

Preparation
– Strong knowledge of Queens, politics, events and history.
– Ability to cover breaking news for 24 hour news cycle.
– Other duties as assigned.
